To expand its range of garden equipment, the German company Gardena conducted research to determine whether bird feeders would be valued within the market.

The design had to meet the following criterias: 

1. easy to handle

2. easy to refill 

3: easy to empty

4. easy to maintain

5. have multiple perches 

In addition, it must be weather resistant and squirrel-repellent.
